About Us

The Dodge County Humane Society, Inc., formerly The Beaver Dam Humane Society, Inc. was founded in 1968 by a group of concerned citizens.  They saw the need for a stray holding facility in the City of Beaver Dam.   Our existing building was built in 1972 and was designed to hold stray animals for the City of Beaver Dam only.

Since that time, we have expanded our scope and now provide services to the greater Dodge County area.  We now contract with 16 area municipalities for stray pick-up service and take in animals directly from people who cannot care for them.  In 2007, over 900 animals will come through our facility and we anticipate 1,000 animals will need our help in 2008.

In 2005, the Board of Directors purchased an exiting building located at the intersection of Highways 26 and 33, north of Juneau.  This building sits on six acres of land and has 9,600 square feet.  Its U-shaped design is perfect for our needs.  Construction began on the new facility in March, 2008 and was completed in July, 2008.  The move to the new building took place on July 17-19, 2008 with the help of over 50 volunteers.   Everyone, including the animals, breathed a sigh of relief, when the move was completely.

The new buliding allows for more room for the animals, better air quality for everyone, separate meet and greet rooms, separate bathrooms, two laundry rooms, a multipurpose room, and great visibility.  Without the support of so many people and business, this building would not have become a realty.

The mission of The Dodge County Humane Society, Inc. is to promote animal welfare by providing care and shelter to animals in need, by facilitating adoptions and by educating the public.

The purpose of the society shall be:
a. To ensure all animals are treated humanely;
b. To find homes for all adoptable animals;
c. To make every effort to reunite lost pets with their owners;
d. To promote spaying and neutering as a way of controlling pet over population;
e. To offer guidance to anyone who asks our help with a pet;
f. To come to the aid of any injured animal;
g. To provide euthanasia when it is determined to be in the best interest of the animal.

Some basic information about us:

  • The Dodge County Humane Society, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) not for profit organization and donations are tax deductable.  We receive no government funding and rely heavily on donations to keep our doors open.
  • We spend much more on our animals that our adoption fees bring in.
  • We handled over 1,000  in 2007 and will increase by 20% in 2008
  • We contract with only 18 of the 43 municipalities in Dodge County.
  • We need funds to finish the building and to cover our operating costs.

Our Goals:

  • Do more to encourage people to spay and neuter their pets.
  • To get every adoptable animal in a home as quickly as possible.
  • To reduce the number of unwanted, stray animals.
  • Offer more educational opportunities to the public.

We Need:

  • YOU, your support, and financial help

If we cease to exist,

  • who will take care of the stray and homeless pets?
  • where would you look if your pet was lost?
  • who will be a voice for the neglected, lost, and abused animals in need?
  • where would the animals go?
